Local Business Offices (LEOs) now support more than 7,500 companies employing more than 35,000 people, according to figures announced by Tánaiste and Minister of Enterprise, Trade and Employment Leo Varadkar.
The office network helped support the creation of 5,585 new jobs in 2020, although there was a net job loss of 1,494 among the LEO portfolio of client companies amid severe business challenges posed by the pandemic.
Overall, LEOs support 35,236 jobs in 7,529 companies, while last year 133 companies made the transition to Enterprise Ireland as they grew and looked to export markets.
“In the face of unprecedented challenges, our LEOs have managed to pivot and adapt quickly, to help their local business network weather the pandemic crisis,” said Mr. Varadkar.
“The coming months will be just as busy as we reopen our economy and help businesses get back on their feet. “
In 2020, over 22 million euros were approved by LEOs to clients for projects throughout the year to help improve their business in various areas. This amount was up from € 20 million in 2019 and is the largest amount of funding approved by the network to date.
LEOs approved 13,091 online vouchers last year to help businesses go online to redeem or enhance their existing online offering. This compares to the 1,218 of these vouchers issued in 2019.
