Fareham Borough Council took over Daedalus Airfield in 2015.
The site, established in 1917, was one of the main coastal airfields for the Fleet Air Arm. However, the airfield was decommissioned in 1996 and it fell into disrepair until it became one of 24 nationwide corporate zones in 2011 – as part of a government program to boost business by offering tax breaks and additional support.
The council renamed the airfield Solent Airport, modernizing it and allowing private flights.
New hangars were completed in 2017, as well as the Fareham Innovation Center business center.
Current occupants include aircraft maintenance specialist PropTech, precision engineering plant UTP, heat exchange coil manufacturer HC Coils, and National Grid with its IFA2 interconnector.
